When Flights Don’t Go as Planned

When chartering a private jet, the last thing you want to hear is that the aircraft is “AOG.” This term is used to describe an aircraft that cannot fly due to a technical issue. While rare, it’s something to be aware of when planning your next flight and knowing how it’s handled can make all the difference.

What Does “AOG” Actually Mean?

AOG stands for “Aircraft on Ground” and it applies whenever an aircraft, whether commercial or private, is grounded for maintenance or safety reasons. Issues leading to AOG can range from engine or avionics faults, fuel contamination to bird strikes and manufacturer defects.

When an aircraft is deemed unsafe to fly, it remains on AOG until the necessary repairs are made. Depending on the situation, this could be a simple maintenance check or a more extensive repair that might even involve replacing key components. Sometimes, if repairs take longer than expected, arranging an alternate aircraft may be the quickest way to get you back in the air.

What Happens When Your Flight Is AOG?

In the rare event that your flight is grounded, there are clear steps to minimise disruption:

  1. Immediate Assessment: We will work with the flight crew and operator who will evaluate the issue and determine the best course of action, sometimes consulting the manufacturer or maintenance teams for parts and solutions.

  2. Alternate Arrangements: If repairs take longer than expected, we will immediately explore options and coordinate with the operator so your journey can continue as planned. During the process, our team will keep the PA and passengers informed with timely updates to minimise any inconvenience.
