Have you ever wanted to get away from your usual tradition at this time of year, ditch the presents and the routine and just do something different?  We have featured a few ideas on our blog to feed your imagination:

The town of Douz is the gateway to the Sahara.  Home to the Star Wars film set it is quite barren and windswept – however for last few days in December the Bedouin tribes gather here to transform it into the venue for a spectacle like no other.

The International Festival of the Sahara draws in a huge crowd. With tourists joining the nomads travelling from neighbouring North African countries to experience the festival’s main event: camel rodeos and races races through the desert landscape!

In Douz, the camel is both king and man’s best friend.  Seeing these majestic mammals take part in in races is incredibly thrilling.  With sand-hockey tournaments, hearty food offerings, craft fairs and traditional belly-dancing performances, there’s no Christmas glitter in sight, but this annual Tunisian festival is even more festive!
